EventsEvery year, between April and May, the city of Cassino and the surrounding area become the stage for intense commemorations in memory of the historic Battle of Montecassino. These events represent a crucial moment to honor the sacrifice of thousands of soldiers and civilians involved in one of the most significant clashes of World War II.
Annual Celebrations The commemorations mainly take place around May 18, a date that marks the conquest of the Abbey of Montecassino by Allied forces in 1944. The activities include: Official Ceremonies: At the Polish Military Cemetery of Montecassino, solemn ceremonies are held with the participation of international authorities, veterans, and representatives from the nations involved in the battle. In 2024, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, participated. Photographic and Documentary Exhibitions: Exhibitions featuring period photographs, historical documents, and war memorabilia, offering visitors a detailed view of the events and experiences during the battle. Conferences and Seminars: Meetings with historians, experts, and direct witnesses that delve into various aspects of the battle, analyzing military strategies, political implications, and the personal stories of the protagonists.
