The Via Francigena in the South
The Francigena Way in the South that runs along the Casilina is a variant recognized by the Lazio Region, but not yet by the Council of Europe. The stretch from Castrocielo to San Vittore del Lazio is the result of a project called Via Francigena V.E.R.S.O. South, funded by the Lazio Region. It starts in Castrocielo and arrives in San Vittore del Lazio.
Then the route, developed in Lazio, goes through the territory of Campania, enters Molise, and then re-enters Campania to cross the accredited Francigena in Benevento.
The route has been the result of a process of "participatory design" followed by the municipalities of the SER.A.F. Association. It has been defined and formalized with municipal resolutions. Specific signage has been installed along the route, as required by the AEVF (European Association of the Francigena Ways) manual.
